The flyball tournament this weekend was held at the Marion County Fair. I slipped away after racing was over on Saturday to go take a look at the livestock pavilion.
Sheep were being shown for wool and meat.
Rabbits were being shown for breeding, 4-H handling, and for meat.
Guinea pigs were shown for 4-H handling only, I believe. These are the only animal I ever had in 4-H as a kid.
Cattle were there for breeding, milk production, and meat. I even had a chance to watch part of the cattle auction, which was fun.
This guy in the picture below was the Reserve Grand Champion steer at the fair. He was very solid, huge compared to most of the others showing, and was very friendly, enjoying chest scratches and forehead rubs. Of the ones I saw, he went for the best price per pound at the auction.
Sorry, no cow butt pictures this year.
And for those guessing about Diva, she is none of the breeds mentioned yet. She is actually a Coton De Tulear.
I always enjoy going to the fair to see all of the animals. Two of my favorites are goats and horses.
ReplyDeleteI also had a guinea pig as a kid. I didn't do 4-H but did show a couple of our angora rabbits once. I liked that.
Even as an adult, I love seeing fair animals.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, I think its great to get high school kids involved with the 4h club.
ReplyDeleteBOL, not what I was expecting when saw "Tasty Tuesday". BOL! I guess they *are* tasty though! Tasty and cute...*shudders* I have a strict policy that says I can't eat anything I knew when it had a face. I just can't!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture in 'Animals' on your blog page. 2nd one down, with the doggie standing on the chair. I think this one should be entered, it speaks a lot and I think everyone will relate to it in some way. It's a lovely picture. My favourite. Amazing how dogs can say so much with no words.
