Lure coursing and the Blog Hop

Looks like Koira, and possibly Pallo, will get a chance at trying out lure coursing tomorrow. The kennel club hosting practice finally decided the field is dry enough. I have to work at 4, and practice is at 1, so I might be running it a little close, but they did say I could make sure my dogs get at least two runs in if I let them know I have to leave by 3.

I'm excited for trying out this new sport. I've never even seen lure coursing in person, but have read about it, and I think Koira will really like it. I'm not sure how Pallo will react, since his prey drive seems way lower, but I will probably go ahead and see how he likes it. Koira I think will love this, since she loves chasing things. We play with our homemade lure toy, a tug on the end of a lunge whip, and she goes totally bonkers for it.

Also, make sure to check out the Saturday Pet Blog Hop. Every week I find some new blogs I want to follow along with. Its a great way to find more blogs, meet new people, and learn new things.

  1. I'm sure your guys will love the lure coursing! I did it with Beryl in October last year and she was on a high all day afterwards. She was so intent on the lure that she crashed into the machinery (the other 2 Greyhounds went either side!!) put a little cut on top of her foot that ended up being deeper than I first thought and I had to take her to the vet for staples at 5-30 on a Saturday afternoon! I don't think I can afford to take her again, lol!

Looking forward to reading how you get on. I bet you all have a blast:)

  2. That sounds like a blast! Although I'm pretty sure Skye would also get tunnel vision and crash into something... but I still think I'll look into it. You never know until you try!

  3. I'm sure Tanner would love lure coursing, but I've found no sign of it in my area. Bummer. Have fun and do report back!

Next weekend while I'm playing on this hop, I'll also be hosting one at my blog. I'd love to have you join in to help homeless bunny friends find furever homes. Check it out http://www.allthingsdogblog.com/2011/04/easter-rabbit-adoptathon-blog-hop.html

  4. I've been wanting to try lure coursing with Cosmo. I think he'd love it! We do agility and think flyball looks pretty cool too, though we haven't tried that sport yet either. Great to meet you from the Blog Hop!

    Have fun tomorrow.

  5. thanks for visiting my blog... lure coursing sounds exciting-what fun for your dogs...I love the quotations you've added to your site...my dogs are bulldogs and don't realize that they can't take the heat or play as long as they'd like...I'm looking into tracking and I think they would both be good at it and love it...great to find your blog thanks to the Blog Hop!

  6. We've never heard of that! We're going to have to ask Mama to GOogle it! Thanks for the potty training advice, by the way. Mama is going to look for a jingle bell to put on the doorknob today!

  8. I love watching the non-sighthounds lure course! Saw an Old English mastiff once... he was awesome. Not lumbering at all, but moved like a lion.

  9. Looking forward to hearing how lure coursing goes. I want to try it but Sophie's prey drive is almost too much so I am not sure I should encourage it.

  10. I found your blog off of BCxFour, off of the raw post and thought I would check out another fellow raw feeders blog. Your dogs are adorable, I'm really looking forward to hearing about your lure-coursing experience. I thought about doing it with my mixed breed because she would be wonderful at it- but the turning at high speeds freaks me out, and she's already got a previous shoulder injury that flares up every now and then. She's my agility dog- and I hate to risk an injury, but I can't wait to hear what you think! Your chiropractor stories intrigued me as well- I'll have to look into that! Good to "meet" you!
