I picked up some leather scraps from a local shoemaker, with the idea of using them for dog collars and leashes.
First step was to sort through all the scraps, picking out the biggest pieces, most colorful, etc, then sort and cut to size.
Next step was to pull out the sewing machine and get started.
I made three collars total and one leash. I have more leather to work with, but ended up getting a bit bored with the sewing.

I didn't get a picture of the leash, but really liked how it turned out. The other collar I made ended up a little large for either of my dogs, but pretty cool looking. I have to decide if I want to alter it and keep it, or find someone who has a larger dog and needs a collar.
Enjoy the Saturday Pet Blog Hop!
Pallo's collar is lovely! I love the large blue piece on the neck.

I tried making some collars for Frankie and Beryl last year. Frankie's lasted a week or so before falling to bits, lol! Yours look much better than my attempts:)
ReplyDeleteRe your comment on my blog about considering a Greyhound for flyball ... I think it would be a challenge to find one but I'm sure you could:) I have read of one who is in a team and is good.
At the Rally O competition we went to yesterday they also had flygility going and boy, did that look like fun! The dogs and owners had a blast. I wish I'd taken some photos!
Leather dog collars are best for our dogs. You had a great idea by using leather do make these nice collars.I'm sure your dogs love wearing them:)
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I love collars, if i could sew them, i'd be in big trouble. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the collar compliments. Looks like I might have to do a collar give away next time I make a batch of them!
ReplyDeleteFrom my experience, a dog appreciates any accessory as long as the accessory is comfortable for him. Dogs like knitted dog sweaters, because it keeps them warm, and they like soft dog collars, like soft leather ones, because these collars doesn't bother them at all.
