A little bit of air

We had a great time down at the Flydo Disc Dog competition this morning. I got a ton of photos, but here are a few of some dogs getting a little bit of air in the distance/accuracy portion of the game.

Distance/accuracy is scored based on two things: Distance (1,2, 3, 5 points at 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards) and accuracy (the dog must catch the disc for the throw to count).

Dogs get an extra half point if all four feet are visibly off the ground when they catch the disc.

Some of the dogs got some air on nearly every throw. For others, it was more of an occasional thing.

More pictures of the rest of the event still to come!

And, the local news station did a short article about the competition, which has a nice shot of Koira in it, along with a lot of dogs, people, and advice from this morning's disc dog.

  3. Awesome! I've always been interested in getting into disc dog. I know my dog has what it takes but my disc throwing skills are definitely lacking.

Thanks for sharing these great shots! And congratulations on the news article!

  4. I'm pretty sure your pups are the most versatile sports dogs that I know! Koira especially seems like such a jock- I love it!

  7. The news clips was good and Koira looked very professional:) Disc dogging looks like so much fun, I think Frankie would enjoy it but he only runs off with frisbees!

  8. Greyhounds CAN Sit- Koira used to just take off to chew on the frisbee too. I had to train her to do a fast return by always having either two or more discs or a ball/chuckit (she loves loves loves her chuckit). She realized that running off ended the game, returning with the toy made more fun stuff happen.
